Museum of Mushrooms

... the family-friendly destination for all mushroom & nature lovers and those who want to be! 

Founded in 1991, it is unique in Austria and even in Europe, as it has the largest number of lifelike exhibits. 

Whether the weather is bad or the sun is shining, you can learn all kinds of interesting facts about mushrooms, their habitat and their important role (not only) in the forest ecosystem. 

In our exhibition you can discover the mushrooms of the four seasons with the help of nearly 1500 handmade mushroom exhibits, embedded in the corresponding flora and fauna.
You can also enjoy the mysterious world of crystals in a presentation of light and sound, and the forest at night with its phosphorescent lichens and mushrooms. Just a few steps further on, you will gain an interesting insight into the history of our forests.

NEW in 2025: the well-known "Elli Riehl Puppenwelt", Elli Riehl´s famous doll creations, are now part of our museum as a permanent special exhibition!

ELLI RIEHL's world of dolls NEW since May 2025

(permanent special exhibition)

Elli Riehl from Villach had a special talent: with just a little wire, absorbent cotton, fabric and paint, she created dolls that make people smile and marvel with their warm charisma. 

46 years of work by the famous doll artist with needle and thread have gone into hundreds of rag dolls, which depict scenes of rural life, “Engerl” and fairy-tale creatures with unique liveliness. 
Immerse yourself in the time 50 years ago and discover the joie de vivre in the faces of the people of that time.
